2022 World Cup Qualifiers: Senegal defeats Egypt on penalties and reaches the Qatar World Cup


The Senegalese national team decided to qualify for the World Cup finals after defeating its Egyptian guest, 3-1, on penalties at Abdellay Wade Stadium in Diamniadio, and the original time ended with Senegal winning with a single goal, after the Pharaohs won the first leg with the same result. At the same time, a match was played between the Nigerian and Ghanaian giants on the grounds of the first, which ended in a 1-1 draw, so that the Ghanaian Black Stars snatched the qualification card thanks to the away goal rule, after the first leg in Accra ended in a goalless draw.



At the Abdellay Wade Stadium in the Senegalese city of Diamniadio, the hosts snatched the qualification card to the World Cup finals in Qatar by defeating their guest, the Egyptian national team, with a score of 3-1, after the original and extra time ended with the victory of the “Teranga Lions” 1-0, which is the same result. Which was won by the "Pharaohs" in the first leg in Egypt.


The atmosphere seemed charged even before the start of the match, as the Senegalese fans shone laser lights on the faces of the Pharaohs players, and their chants prevented the Egyptian national anthem from being heard.


The Senegalese team started strongly and started putting pressure on the Egyptian team from the start of the match, as it got a direct free kick to the right of the penalty area from close range. The fourth of the meeting, to quickly compensate for their defeat with a goal without a response in Cairo.





Kalidou Coulibaly missed Senegal's first kick, hitting the crossbar, and so did Mohamed Salah, who shot over the goal. Al-Shennawi continued his brilliance by saving Senegal's second shot, but Zizou failed to take advantage of the opportunity and hit outside the goal. Ismaila Sarr scored the third kick for Senegal, as did Amr El-Soulia. Amadou Deng scored the fourth kick for the Lions strongly, but Senegalese goalkeeper Edouard Mendy blocked Mustafa Mohamed's kick, after which Sadio Mane scored the fifth kick for Senegal, capturing the qualification card for the World Cup.

In the second half, the Nigerians pressed very hard to score a second goal and snatch the victory and qualify for the World Cup finals in Qatar, especially through Osimhen, who had several chances and hit the goal more than once, but to no avail, so the match ended with a goal for the same, and the black stars qualified for the finals hosted by Qatar.
